The Jeremiah Memorial Foundation, Inc. was founded in December 2011, in memory of SSG/RET Cornelius C. Brown Jr., grandfather to Kevin A. Starlings President/CEO of The Jeremiah Entertainment Group, Inc. He decided to start this organization based on the life lessons taught by his grandfather who raised him for more than 24yrs of his life. Them same lessons will continue to remain within Kevin.
SSG/RET Brown was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Cornelius Brown and Hazel Thompson. He received his elementary education in Pittsburgh, Pa. Public Schools and later joined the U.S. Army where he continued his education and served for 20 years.
While serving in the U.S. Army he had numerous duty
stations foreign and domestic, he also served in Vietnam.
He enjoyed his time in the Army. He volunteered to return
for a second tour in Vietnam in 1969. During his service to
our country he received numerous awards and recommend-
ations including the Bronze Star Medal & Army Commen-
dation Medal in 1969 after his second Vietnam tour. After
retiring from the Army he began his career at Western
Electric/Verizon where he retired after 22 years of service.
At an early age he joined the Warren United Methodist
Church in Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1979, he joined Trinity Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia under the leadership of Pastor A. Lincoln James Jr., where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Trustee Board, Counting Team, Male Chorus, Inspirational Choir, Soup Kitchen, Solid Gold Ministry, Sick Visitation Team and Transportation Ministry. In 1991 because of his leadership, hard work and dedication he was honored with the "Man of the Year Award" by the Trinity Baptist Church. When he retired from the U.S. Army and Western Electric/Verizon, he continued to work as a volunteer wherever needed within the church and community. He spent his days helping others and enjoyed doing it. When I asked him why he worked so tirelessly without pay, he would say " Well old man, I just like doing it". He could never say "NO" when asked to do something by his family and friends. He also lent a helping hand to strangers. Those were the most inspiring words that he could say.
He was a loving, caring and devoted husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Cornelius was a True Man of God, hero and mentor, therefore in December of 2011, he lost the fight to diabetes.
"Pop enjoyed volunteering his time to the church and community. My Pop always told me to help those in need, therefore I will continue his mission for years to come. " -Kevin Starlings
